In an effort to enhance public health education and community well-being, Orange County Supervisor Chair Doug Chaffee has allocated $450,000 from his Fourth District Discretionary Funds to launch the Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAP) in partnership with California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). This innovative pilot program will be implemented in the City of Stanton and aims to create a model that promotes better health outcomes within the community.

The CHAP will engage students from the CSUF Master of Public Health program, who will design, implement, and evaluate targeted interventions aimed at reducing health disparities. This hands-on experience will not only provide students with real-world training but also empower local stakeholders with insights drawn from a leading national research institution.

“While the federal government has moved to defund the public health sector, Orange County is committed to strengthening and expanding our health system to serve our residents effectively,” said Chaffee. “This program represents an investment in our students and our community, fostering a future where everyone has access to better preventative and primary care.”

The launch event for the Community Health Ambassador Program will take place on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 10 to 11 am at the Titan Student Union’s Alvarado Room on the California State University, Fullerton campus. Attendees are advised to park in Lot R or the Alumni Lot, with a map provided for convenience.

Key speakers at the event will include Chair Doug Chaffee, CSUF President Ron Rochon, Dr. Michelle Wood, Chair of the Public Health Department at CSUF, and a representative from the student body.

This collaborative effort marks an important step toward enhancing public health initiatives in Orange County, bringing together academia, local government, and community members in a unified approach to health and well-being.
